The GIS UCP 2 graduate-level microcredential will help students master advanced skills needed to apply geographic information systems (GIS) in government agencies, community organizations, companies, and other professional settings. These skills include spatial analysis techniques, cartographic design, GIS project management, GIS coding, learning from online user communities, and online mapping and applications.

GIS UCP 2 will be stackable with and advertised with the following two other GIS microcredentials:
- Geographic Information Systems for Urban & Community Professionals 1 (GIS UCP 1). This microcredential consists of two courses introducing students to GIS and its practically-oriented applications. It is offered by the Department of Urban Planning.
- Geographic Information Science and Spatial Analysis (GIS SA). This microcredential consists of two courses focused on displaying spatial data and performing spatial analyses using GIS. It is offered by the Department of Geography.
For those who develop an interest in furthering their GIS knowledge through classes at UWM, this 6-credit microcredential consists of courses that count towards the Tier 1 and Tier 2 requirements of the 18-credit Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems.
This 6-credit microcredential can also be used toward the elective requirements for the Master of Urban Planning degree.
