The Department of Administrative Leadership develops the education field’s next generation of change-makers. As an educational leader, you’ll have the vital skills needed to nurture leadership among others in a wide range of elementary, secondary, and post-secondary programs, as well as in business and industry.

We have two areas of study at the master's level: Adult, Continuing, and Higher Education Administration, which focuses on post-secondary adult and continuing education leadership and administration at higher education organizations; and Educational Administration, which focuses on elementary and secondary educational administration.

The Adult, Continuing, and Higher Education Administration master's concentration prepares students to advance their administrative leadership skills, improve instructional design of professional development, or succeed in a variety of roles in colleges and universities. A major focus of our program is preparing leaders for urban higher education institutions who honor diversity and difference among people, groups and societies.

Our rigorous Educational Administration program, led by faculty who are actively engaged in research in the field, meets Wisconsin state licensure requirements and will give you the skills you need to succeed in today’s challenging educational landscape.

At the doctoral level, the primary mission of the concentration in Adult, Continuing, and Higher Education Leadership (ACHEL) within the Urban Education PhD program is to prepare individuals for leadership positions in urban adult, continuing, and higher educational organizations. The specialization will assist students to examine changing perspectives on urban post-secondary, adult and continuing educational organizations; changing notions of urban adult, continuing, and higher education teaching and learning; and the changing roles of the students, teachers, researchers, and administrators who work and study within urban adult, continuing, and higher education organizations.

The Department of Administrative Leadership is committed to developing educational leaders, particularly for service in metropolitan areas. We believe that excellent educational leaders nurture leadership among others in the school community; create positive work environments for students, staff and parents; and contribute to the improvement of teaching and learning.
